Clomipramine

Clomipramine, (clomipramine hydrochloride capsules USP), is an antiobsessional drug that belongs to the class (dibenzazepine) of pharmacologic agents known as tricyclic antidepressants. Clomipramine is indicated for the treatment of obsessions and compulsions in patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The obsessions or compulsions must cause marked distress, be time-consuming, or significantly interfere with social or occupational functioning.

Uses

Clomipramine is indicated for the treatment of obsessions and compulsions in patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The obsessions or compulsions must cause marked distress, be time-consuming, or significantly interfere with social or occupational functioning.

Side effects

The most commonly observed adverse events associated with the use of Clomipramine are gastrointestinal complaints, dry mouth, constipation, nausea, dyspepsia, and anorexia; nervous system complaints, which could almost certainly involve somnolence, tremor, dizziness, nervousness, and myoclonus; genitourinary complaints, which could almost certainly involve changed libido, ejaculatory failure, impotence, and micturition disorder; and other miscellaneous complaints, which could almost certainly involve fatigue, sweating, increased appetite, weight gain, and visual changes.

Precaution

Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.

Drug interactions

Clomipramine (clomipramine hydrochloride capsules USP) is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Clomipramine or other tricyclic antidepressants.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
Clomipramine must not be given in combination, or within 14 days before or after treatment, with a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor. Hyperpyretic crisis, seizures, coma, and death have been reported in patients receiving such combinations.
Clomipramine is contraindicated during the acute recovery period after a myocardial infarction.
